Inkjet Printer Cartridges: How Do They Work?

When one looks closely at the famous painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat you can see the basic principle behind the modern inkjet printer. Seurat excelled in the painting style known as pointillism, which is the creation of a cohesive image from a multitude of small dots of color. It is the same idea you can see at work in modern newspapers. If you look closely you can see the photos printed on the front page are constructed with thousands of tiny dots clustered closely together.

The modern inkjet printer works on exactly the same principles. Using miniscule nodules on the printer cartridge head your inkjet printer can make images of stunning clarity and vibrancy. So clear in fact that it might be hard to see the individual dots without a magnifying glass. Most modern inkjet printers create dots between 50 to 60 microns wide. How small is that? For a good comparison look at an average human hair, at its widest it will only be 70 microns in diameter.

How does an inkjet printer cartridge make such tiny dots? The key is the print head, the small rectangular area at the base of your printer cartridge closest to the paper itself. The print head is the most precise and the most active part of your printer. It's for this reason that it is usually attached to the ink cartridge, so as to assure it gets replaced when it has been used to the maximum of its potential. In the majority of inkjet printers the print head uses a tiny heating element to warm the ink, causing it to expand and create a microscopic bubble. Quite quickly the bubble bursts, forcing ink out of the print head and creating a tiny vacuum which draws more ink out of the cartridge reservoir. As you might imagine all of this happens quite quickly and on an almost unobservable scale.

Alternatively, Epson printers achieve ink application to the paper is through the manipulation of piezoelectric crystals which change orientation through the application of an electrical charge. By aligning the crystals tiny holes appear to allow the warmed ink to pass from the printer head onto the paper. This allows for a very precise application of very small ink droplets.

The average print cartridge can deliver 5,000 drops of ink per second, traveling across the breadth of a piece of A4 paper in the same amount of time printing one line of pixels as it goes. The average inkjet printer can make a full color printed page in less than one minute, with the ultimate top speed of any printer defined by the number of dots per inch (DPI) it is designed to deliver. The higher the DPI the more microscopic nodules can be found on the print head and consequently the more dots that can be printed with one pass.

Many inkjet cartridges can contain more than one color of ink. Usually this means the average consumer printer can function in full color capacity using only 2 ink cartridges; one for black ink and one for a combination of basic color elements.

As with any piece of sufficiently small and exceedingly complex technology there is a chance for malfunction or error but in the case of the inkjet printer cartridge problems rarely occur. Despite the fact that many functions are taking place at a high rate of speed the basic mechanics are relatively simple. This reliability and continuing high level of print quality is why inkjet printers continue to be so exceedingly popular among both personal and business consumers.

Key Secret #1 – Do Only One Task at a Time

Modern life, with its hectic pace, has created the illusion that people can multi-task; that is, perform several tasks simultaneously. Perhaps you have found yourself multi-tasking in an effort to become more productive. If that is the case, then you might be shocked by what you are about to discover.

The human mind is a marvelous device. So marvelous that it can focus on practically any one task, no matter how intricate. However, give it two tasks, even trivial ones, and it virtually shuts down.

If you doubt what you just read, then I encourage you to do an experiment: recite the alphabet while you are reading this article, and then see if you remember anything that you read while you were going through the letters.

Or, if you would like to have some fun, you can even try performing a mechanical, automatic task while reading this article. Try singing your favorite song as you continue to read.

I probably don’t need to tell you what just happened, as it is obvious: It took monumental effort to perform both tasks well at the same time, if you were able to carry them out at all (most people cannot, and the rest are probably lying when they say they can).

So why is it that so many of us harbor the illusion that we can do several things at once and truly accomplish anything meaningful?

What is Multi-Tasking?

By focusing on just one task at a time until it is complete (and not moving on to another unless an emergency compels you to do otherwise), you will enjoy the pleasant feelings that come with making true progress towards your goals. SECRET #6 IS: EDUCATION, REPETITION AND VARIETY

Most small businesses market their products and services like this:

Step 1: Buy a bunch of leads or generate leads with a mailer or other campaign
Step 2: Distribute leads to sales reps
Step 3: Reps call on the leads to find the "hot" ones who are ready now
Step 4: Reps work with hot leads to close a quick deal
Step 5: Throw away, postpone or neglect the leads that aren't "hot"
Step 6: Repeat the process

Just about every business on the planet does this. And it's not bad... until you realize how much money you're leaving on the table. The fact is, for every deal you close using this common process, there's another 2 - 3 deals (or more!) you COULD close.

So, how do you do that? Well, that's what Secret #6 is all about--How to properly follow up using EDUCATION, REPETITION AND VARIETY.

You see, over 99% of small businesses don't properly follow up. Why? Because they don't have a system, they don't have time, they don't know how valuable it is, and the truth is, they don't know how to follow up! But...a few simple secrets could make you a "follow-up master."

Effective follow-up must take a combined approach that incorporates these three elements:

2) REPETITION. It's a proven fact that human beings have to hear the same thing over and over before it sinks in. Marketing and Sales is no different. YOU know your products and services like the back of your hand, but your customers don't "get it" the first time they hear the message. Don't make the mistake of thinking that if a prospect heard the pitch once, they understood it. Chances are, they didn't. Tell them again, and again and again.

3) VARIETY. This doesn't mean you vary your message!!! You need to consistently tell your message, but your follow-up DELIVERY needs variety. To maximize your sales, you must use multi-step follow-up sequences that incorporate direct mail, phone, email, fax, voice broadcasts, and other media! There is serious power that comes when you contact your prospects using multiple methods.

However, I can't tell you how many times I've heard the argument that this kind of follow up is tedious, it's time-consuming, it's overkill, it's belittling to the customer, it's... whatever.

Guess what? It might be all of those things. But it works. Period. When you begin to properly follow up with your leads and customers using Education, Repetition and Variety, your numbers will absolutely shoot through the roof. You will be completely amazed!

So, you might be saying that this is just too much work for any human. You know what? I agree with you 100%!! I can't imagine trying to do all of this manually. You need an automated system to handle all of this for you.
